Jack Bizlall Voted Mauritian of the Decade

OK the sample is not "scientific" - whatever that may denote. So what? We are all too aware of how cynically crony capitalism promotes its heroes.

It is indeed very unlikely that Jack Bizlall and Ashok Subron do not represent, in the eyes of a citizenry aspiring to something else than roder-boutisme, the most dedicated and vocal change agency. For the country to regain its shine, progressive Mauritians can only pray that grassroot initiatives continue to gather momentum until high-profile politicians, entrepreneurs and thinkers join the movement to drive a well-deserved sanzman.

  1. Jack certainly deserves this title for the work he accomplished over the last decade. Ashok too has been very busy.

  2. The sad truth is that neithr Bizlall nor Subron will get elected through the polls unless they enrol under one of the main political parties!

  3. Indeed. They merely act as catalysts for sanzman. For that only, they deserve our kudos. Even if civil society is currently being reborn, it has yet to find a meaningful drive. Progressives must unite to push for change within the Establishment - whatever it stands for. It could be that mainstream citizenry does not feel the pinch enough. History testifies that a new leader eventually emerges when the going is perceived to get tough. When? Your guess is as good as mine. The sooner we hit the bottom the better. The longer frustrations simmer, the louder the bang.

  4. Agreed. Sanzman, contrary to common belief, is not the deed of the masses. It is reflected upon and carried out by visionaries who operate on a different level of consciousness. They are rarely to be found among politicians.

  5. And Jack has been pretty consistent since this poll. Collen has been great too. But Subron is an entirely different story.
